Wales Start Up Awards

The Wales Start Up Awards is a new initiative with the aim of praising and sharing the unsung heroes of the business start-up world. There are several categories that businesses can enter themselves in for (no more than 2 can be applied for), in the hopes of winning the esteemed 1st place.

The categories include:

  • Construction Start-up Of The Year
  • Creative and Digital Start-up Of The Year
  • Financial and Professional Services Start-up Of The Year
  • Food and Drink Start-up Of The Year
  • Global Start-up Of The Year
  • Green Start-up Of The Year
  • Life Sciences Start-up Of The Year
  • Manufacturing and Engineering Start-up Of The Year
  • Retail Start-up Of The Year
  • Services Start-up Of The Year
  • Social Enterprise Start-up Of The Year
  • Technology Start-up Of The Year
  • Tourism and Leisure Start-up Of The Year
  • Young Entrepreneur Of The Year

All entries will be automatically entered into one of the four regional awards namely

  • Cardiff Capital Region start-up of the year – Sponsored by Yolk Recruitment
  • North Wales start-up of the year – Sponsored by Jolly Good Vehicle Rentals
  • Rural start-up of the year – Sponsored by University of Wales Trinity St Davids
  • Swansea Bay Region start-up of the year – Sponsored by Swansea Bay City Region

The Wales Start-Up of the Year 2016 will be chosen from the winners of all the above categories.

The event will be held in DEPOT, Cardiff, on Friday the 16th of September 2016 at 6pm.

Wrexham Glyndŵr Gaming Success

4 Wrexham Glyndŵr University students (Dafydd John, Philippe Valensa, Jack Penny and Jon Oliver Roberts) have placed their Computer Games Development team in the final 15 competitors of Dare to be Digital 2016.

They go by the name ‘Turtle Games’ as a whole and they are working on designing their game ‘Unjust’.

Make Summer Work For You

Our Careers & ZONE team here at Wrexham Glyndŵr University have a series of fantastic events and workshops planned for over the summer to benefit students and enable them to pick up valuable skills and knowledge that they can use to brighten their future even further.

This will all be kicking off on our Wrexham Plas Coch campus on the 23rd of May, with 2 workshops running and a free buffet lunch sandwiched in between.

The first workshop of the day will include information on job searching, looking at the best ways to get you started on finding work and thinking about what your networking message is. Information on this workshop can be found HERE. The workshop runs between 11am and 12noon.

Following this there will be a free buffet lunch between 12pm and 2pm in the foyer of the Edward Llwyd Centre (Library building) on the Wrexham campus. Finally, to round off the day, there is a second workshop running from 2pm to 3pm. This will be looking at how you can show yourself and your skill set off in the best way possible, building your CV up in a professional and impressive way. The info you need for this can be found HERE.

FREE Entrepreneur Summer School

Are you a current student at Wrexham Glyndŵr University? Are you thinking of starting up your own business?

If so, then enrol onto this Entrepreneur Summer School!

This 4 week course covers the basics to help you get started in business. From the 27th of June to the 22nd of July you will study 2 modules which include organised field trips and guided sessions with local entrepreneurs. This mean you can get a real feel for how to be successful in your venture.

Whatever business idea you have, this is the course for you!

Terms and Conditions

This course is being offered free to all current Wrexham Glyndŵr University students. Tuition will take place in the Wrexham Plas Coch campus. No accommodation provided. This is an intensive 4 week program so there will be tuition sessions/field trips every day Monday to Friday for the 4 weeks. The modules will each include an assignment.

To enrol you must have passed your current years’ modules and have no study commitments over the summer in relation to your current course.
